“Funeral Service” is the 1st entry of a 3 part series focusing on self-empowerment. I read a book called “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson not too long ago (probably on of the best self-help books I’ve read in a while) given to me by really good friend of mine. I’ve decided to share the points from the book that impacted me the most.
The book mentioned that an average of 10 people will cry at your funeral (keep in mind, that might just be family members) and of those that do attend your funeral service approximately 50% will attend your burial-completely dependant on the weather. With that being said, why are we so inhibited, shy, filled with fear of what others might think when it comes to doing what WE want to do?
Is all this worrying and hindrance of accomplishing your dreams worth it? I think not!
I want to create a legacy, I want people to cry at my funeral, utitlize the bereavement time offered in most work benefit plans. I overall want to leave.my.mark. With the death anniversary of Michael Jackson one of THE greatest entertainers passing, it made sense to me. Individuals like Michael Jackson, Martin Luther King (you know where I’m going with this…) that have created a legacy, impacted lives, made a change in the world all have one thing in common-they did what others were not willing to do. They said, who cares what anybody thinks? I’m gonna do me!
“Whose funerals do thousands cry and millions mourn? For those who will do what others are not willing to do. For the people whom we give status, people that leave a legacy. The greats. These are the people who spent their lives not worrying about what others thought.” -Jeff Olson (The Slight Edge)
It’s easy to be comfortable and NOT do, but for once, just take that step and DO something that makes you feel out of place, because while you’re worrying about what people will think, your cry count ain’t going up at your funeral!
I’m hoping I have more than 10 people cry at my funeral. One sure thing is if you’re short on criers at yours, if I’m there I’ll be the first one dropping those tears. My tear ducts are always flooding out. I’m sensitive so what?
